My first corporate holiday party

Kind of? I guess free lunch with the rest of the company can definitely be counted as the holiday party. My division had lunch together a few weeks ago, but today was the company-wide holiday lunch at the hospital. It really was great and enforces everything I’ve thought about my decision to move here. I work with some brilliant people and they’re not only great to work around, but also to be around when we’re not talking about work. Things discussed today: Dating habits of men and women – who should pay when? How much a facial costs for women. Nigerian 419 scammers. Traveling around the holidays.

It was great and the camp chair we got as the corporate gift was a nice touch too. This time last year I was still uncertain as to where I would land with regards to a new job, especially with people that enrich both personally and professionally.

More on this later, but this was great this morning.

I’ve been reading up on Tim Ferris lately and found this on his blog. Tried it this morning and it works! I’m full and I can feel it. The egg beaters were surprisingly good.

Damn, what a great day

I struggled all week feeling a bit out of control with regard to daily life. I never really had a firm grasp on what it was I was trying to do every day. Everything I did was reactive, not proactive. I’ve been doing some reading lately on how to increase productivity and efficiency. I tried to at least enact a little bit of what I read starting yesterday afternoon. When I got home I did a quick cleanup of my bathroom and kitchen. Total time investment: 15 minutes Total stress relief: unmeasurable. This morning I had a great breakfast with Millie and wrapped up a huge load of laundry right after lunch. From there it was back here to clean the rest of the apartment and do dishes.

The main theme of what I’ve been reading is that being efficient when things need to get done is the key to being able to relax when you don’t have anything to do. Your mind is clear.

It was a great reset prior to Christmas. I had been a little strung out since hosting part of the family up here for Thanksgiving.

So I stayed perched by the window all day yesterday looking for snow in Evanston that did not come. I waited and watched the cold, miserable rain fall, but there was no snow. When you come from an area where it doesn’t snow, ever, the prospect of seeing your first snowfall in 9 years is a pretty neat thing. Alas, at 11:30 when I went to sleep there was still only cold, miserable rain. And then I woke up.

It snowed this evening

Like it really snowed here is photo evidence.
