….not really quite sure when I met Trey Hardee. My dad worked with his stepfather at HealthSouth. His sister is a year younger than I am and our paths crossed many, many times. He played basketball and I remember vividly the days after he was cut from the varsity squad that I had played for years earlier. We spoke as to what ran through the coach’s mind as to why he would cut such an outstanding player from such a sub-par squad. Blessing in disguise and all that nonsense. Fast forward some eight years and Trey Hardee is now an Olympic Decathlete having placed 2nd overall last night at the US trials in Eugene, Ore.
That lanky kid from Vestavia is now a world-class athlete and deserving of everything that good that comes his way.
